Antivirus / Antispyware Scan Stopped? - Why does my Virus Scan Stop or Close?
If your Antivirus or Antispyware keeps stopping or closing during a scan you most likely have a Virus that is causing this issue. The First Rule of Removing Viruses is DO NOT REBOOT. Rebooting usually results in the virus damaging more of your computer or even causing your pc not to reboot.
Before you start trying to remove a virus you want to make sure its a virus. In order to do that, ASG recommends you download a fresh copy of your Antivirus Software. Then run your installer for your Antivirus and try to repair it. Then try to run your Antivirus scan again.
If you still cannot get your Antivirus to finish a scan. Try running the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool by following the steps below:
- For Windows XP - You can run it by going to start, run, then type mrt.exe and hit enter. (Go ahead and update it if you are prompted then reopen it)
- For Windows Vista - You can run it by going to start, then type mrt.exe into your search box and hit enter. (Go ahead and update it if you are prompted then reopen it)
After opening the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, click next, then choose"Full Scan" and hit next to start the Scan. Let it run until it completes and follow any instructions it gives you. Once the scan completes you can continue with the steps below if the virus is still on your computer.
Once you complete the scan with the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, OR If you Can't run a scan with the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.
