Process Port - Which process is using which ports?

Are you trying to figure out what process is using what port? This is easier than you think.

You will need 2 completely free programs in order to get great information. F Port is the first program. This program is ran from the cmd prompt. It gives you a list of all current connections and open ports. F Port will also give you the process id and the name of the program running on that port. Process Explorer is the second program. Just in case F Port is unable to name the exact program using the port. You can get the process id listed in F Port and use that to find the program using it in Process Explorer.

First download and install both F Port and Process Explorer. You may use the links below.

Download F Port here

Download Process Explorer here

BOTH PROGRAMS ARE FREE

Just in case your a little confused about the install. Both F Port and Process Explorer are files that you can just copy and paste anywhere on your computer and run. Just extract the files that you downloaded. Then copy and paste F Port into your local disk C:\. You can do this by opening "my computer", then clicking on "local disk C:\" and then pasting F Port in the main directory of local disk C:\

Now for process explorer you can copy and paste the file anywhere any just double click on it to run it. After you have both of the files in place. You can to run F Port by first opening your command prompt. On windows XP you click on start, then click on run, then type the letters cmd and hit enter. This opens the command prompt. In here you should have a blinking cursor next to C:\. Now you should be able to type fport.exe and hit enter. This will make the program F Port run and show you a list of all the ports open on your computer. Along with the PID meaning process id. This PID can used inside of the program process explorer to determine the exact process running on that port.

HELP?

-------------------------

- I have a different drive letter than local disk C:\ - in this case. Go ahead and paste the F Port program onto any of your hard drives that are listed in the my computer window. Just remember what the drive letter is. For instance local disk D:\ or Local Disk E:\ - then when you have the command prompt open you need to type the correct drive letter and add a colon to the end of it. Then hit enter. Example= D: if you placed it on drive D, or E: if you placed it on drive E. After you hit enter you letter should change and your cursor will now be blinking next to the new letter. Now just type in fport.exe and hit enter to start the program.

- How do I extract a file? - Just right click on the file you want to extract, then choose extract. If you dont have this option you can download a program called IZarc. This program is used to extract files. Files that need extracted are usually .zip files or .rar files. These types of files are called compressed files. Once a file is compressed the best way to use it is to extract the file first.
