Your internet service provider gives you access to a DNS. A DNS is a computer that redirects your requests to websites. When you type in www.google.com in your web browser like internet explorer or firefox. You get sent to the website by the DNS that your internet service provider owns.

OpenDNS with replace your current DNS. Then when you run a search or type in a website to go to. You'll be sent there by OpenDNS.
